  1. I suggest as saint for the radio station:
St. John of God, having listened to a sermon by John of Avila, the merchant went mad with remorse for his sins. He began to scream and tear at his hair. He was confined to a lunatic asylum until John of Avila visited him, asking him to serve God. John of God began to sell wood, feeding the poor, with his profits, he built a house where he sheltered vagabonds and nursed the ill. He never founded an order, but having been rescued from the asylum, he ended up supporting those who were sick. (cf. 'The Illustrated World Encyclopaedia of Saints', Tessa Paul, Lorenz Books).

Through Sacred Space on West Limerick 102fm (Sunday: 10am-11am), we try also to serve the sick, housebound and those in hospital or suffering from any ailments.

The utter humility of John of God, which led to a totally selfless dedication to others, is most impressive. Here is a man who realized his nothingness in the face of God. The Lord blessed him with the gifts of prudence, patience, courage, enthusiasm and the ability to influence and inspire others. He saw that in his early life he had turned away from the Lord, and, moved to receive his mercy, John began his new commitment to love others in openness to God’s love.(http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/Saints/saint.aspx?id=1316)

    In His Footsteps:
When you feel the urge to serve, help, or pray do you act on it or argue yourself out of it? Today if you feel an impulse to do good, do it immediately as John of God would have done without thinking of how practical or how embarrassing it might be.
    Prayer:

Saint John of God, help us to act out of love as soon as we feel the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Help us learn to fight the little voices in our heads and hearts that give us all sorts of practical reasons to wait or delay in our service of God. Amen (http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=68)
